Susan Meiselas
Susan Meiselas is an American documentary photographer. Her first major photographic essay focused on the lives of women doing striptease at New England country fairs. So, she photographed during three consecutive summers while teaching photography in New York public schools. Carnival Strippers was originally published in 1976 and a selection was installed at the Whitney Museum of Art in June 2000.
She has been associated with Magnum Photos since 1976 and has been a full member since 1980. She is best known for her 1970s photographs of war-torn Nicaragua. As well as the previously mentioned carnival strippers. Her most recent project A Room Of Their Own explores the experiences of women taking refuge in the Black Country UK.
