So, Opie’s work is often queer, and her new exhibition “Girlfriends” is no different. Two years after her retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum, Opie then returned to her community roots with this photography. A knockout show of new and never before seen portraits exhibited at the Gladstone Gallery. All together, “Girlfriends” shows Opie continuing to explore the hidden territories behind constructed facades.
