About Immortal Mushroom

Immortal Mushroom takes its name from an Asian medicinal mushroom called lingzhi. In a explorative collaboration, photographers Samuel Bradley and Kat Chan study a remote city in northern China: Shangri-La, the most culturally and biodiverse province in the country.

In the images, that are presented along Kat Chan’s essays and poems as a way to thread the narrative, the artists show us stunning still life experiments created with vegetables and fruits and create a surreal vision of Shangri-La. We could say this extraordinary book offers a unique angle on a barely known but remarkable place.

Bradley and Chan create a medium to explore the history and culture of Shangri-La while also challenging assumptions about Traditional Chinese Medicine.

About Samuel Bradley

Samuel Bradley is a British photographer and director born in 1989. His work utilises the juxtaposition of lively and joyful compositions with more pensive studies of form. He studied fine art and documentary photography at UCA Farnham, learning traditional printing techniques and research-based practice. His early projects focussed on photographing fringe societies in parts of rural England and he wrote his dissertation around the subject of aftermath photography in the wake of war and natural disaster.
