Rinko Kawauchi was born in 1972. Her work is often cited for it’s serene and poetic ability to document the banal moments of everyday life. She manages to find wonder and magic even in the smallest of moments.
Kawauchi became interested in photography while studying at at Seian University of Art and Design. Where she graduated from graphic design and photography in 1993. She first worked in commercial photography for an advertising agency for several years. Then, she embarked on a career as a fine art photographer. In 2001, she released three books at once: Hanako, Hanabi, and Utatane. So, this started her foray into the fine art world.She continues to work the advertising job.
Her background and experience with design has influenced the edits and arrangements of photos in her series. She often thinks about new ways to see her photographs. Allowing her to continue to find new meaning and significance in her work.
