So, these three volumes encompass the complete evolution of the work of the renowned Italian photographer, Guido Guidi. Made in Sardinia on two trips separated by forty years, the two books not only mark the stylistic development in the work of Guidi but also the historical shifts and changes on the remote island.
The first trip was on Guidi’s honeymoon in 1974 and with a Nikon F and a FIAT 127, he made a series of black and white photographs. These reflect the social and political climate of Sardinia in the post-sixties era. Then, the second visit, in 2011, involved 3 cameras – a Hasselblad, a Deardorff 8×10 and a digital Canon – and the now well-known Guidi palette of tender, almost resigned colour.
Guido Guidi was born in Cesena, in 1941 and studied architecture in Venice at the beginning of the sixties. He was influenced by Neorealist film as well as Conceptual art. Guidi then began exploring Italy’s man-made landscapes in the late sixties.
