About City Confessions #2:
This is #2 in the City Confessions series and it’s focused in London. Ed Templeton’s frequent trips to this great city go back over 20 years, which means we get to appreciate transformation as well what stays unchanged; the spirit of London.
The photographer captures furtive moments that occur when crossing a road, walking down a busy interjection or glimpsing into a bus window. A constant parade of faces, scenes and people going about their lives simultaneously. Unaware of one another.
The design of this SuperLabo book is as playful as the images inside. Templeton’s signature versatility shows through the depictions of the very varied people he takes his eye to.
About Ed Templeton
Ed Templeton is an American professional skateboarder, contemporary artist, and photographer. He is the founder of the skateboard company, Toy Machine, a company that he continues to own and manage. He is based in Huntington Beach, California. Templeton was inducted into the Skateboard Hall of Fame in 2016.
“Depending on what hat I’m wearing, I’m a skateboarder, an artist, or a businessman,” says Ed Templeton, who produces photographs, paintings, and drawings. He began skateboarding in 1985 and went on to found his own skateboard company and to skate professionally from the early to mid-1990s. In 1994, he picked up a camera to document the skateboarder subculture he was a part of—and began his artistic career. Though he is primarily known for his black-and-white photographs of the people and street life of Huntington Beach, Calif., his work also includes a series of intimate portraits of his wife and an understated suite of paintings focused on suburbia. As the artist explains, all of his subjects come from his own life: “Everything I’ve ever shot has just been on the path that I’ve been on, be it skating or travel or street photography.”
