Toshio Shibata is infamous for his large format landscape photographs. So, here we have Shibata’s photos of mountainsides overlaid by concrete netting. As well as other engineering devices to prevent erosion and landslides. These are marked by their abstract beauty. Also, their sense of immense scale. Our first book on this work, Landscape, was published to wide critical acclaim, and then the first printing sold out upon publication. The artist’s follow up book, Dam, is perhaps more beautiful yet. Printed in a large 14 x 17 inch format. Also hardbound in Japanese cloth. Dam is limited to an edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Additionally, each copy of the book features an original print on the front cover. Protected by a matching slipcase.
Toshio Shibata is one of Japan’s most respected contemporary photographers. His work has been the subject of exhibitions and publications throughout Japan, the United States, and Europe, and is included in public collections such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; as well as The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
