About On the Beach
The images from On the Beach were taken from Misrach’s hotel room in Hawaii, although they may lead us to think he was actually hovering over the white sanded shores. They show us a striking duality: the water in all its turquoise and messy splendour and the sand, dotted with people.
The over sized photographs were taken right after the terrorist attack on September 11th. Perhaps it’s the reason for the isolation that Misrach captured. Floating beach goes contemplating the sky. Sometimes they swim away, sometimes they walk away.
The detail in the images along with the size of this book make the experience of turning the pages an unforgettable one.
