About
Which photo books have given an insight into 'Germany' in a particularly convincing and characteristic way? Germany in the photo book shows them: books from the last days of the Empire and the Weimar Republic, from the 'Third Reich', the Federal Republic, the GDR and the reunited Germany. Many important photographers are represented with creative closed works on the topic: August Sander and Albert Renger-Patzsch, Abisag Tüllmann and Edith Rimkus, Leonard Freed and George Hashiguchi, Dirk Reinartz, Chargesheimer, Will McBride, Heinrich Riebesehl, Christian Borchert and many others. Germany in the photo book gathers 273 works presented with sample pages, a short text and bibliographic data. The volume is divided into thematic groups: landscapes, cities, people, work, architecture, contemporary events, borders, 'typical German' etc. Each chapter is introduced by an essay. Thomas Wiegand, born in Eschwege in 1960, is a photographer and art historian.
