About Fernweh
Fernweh is a project that spans over a period of five years and that takes place in Switzerland. We see a profound connection between the photographs and Cole's writing, building up as we turn the pages. In Fernweh, we are witnesses to a masterful crafting of sequences. Also, the fact the fact that Cole produced the photographs over the years, as we revisited the country over and over, creates a very obvious effect of change and movement. Besides, the juxtaposition of text and writing is seamless and absolutely natural to Cole. Fernweh means 'the longing to be somewhere else', which acts as the muse of this project in which we're made to look at the blindspots, the non-spaces behind the wall. This way, perhaps for the first time, we are made to look away from the obvious beauty and instead, focus on what's around and in between.About Teju Cole
