About Modern Color
Fred Herzog is known for his unusual use of colour in the 50s and 60s, when art photography was almost exclusively associated with black and white imagery. Herzog worked with Kodachrome slide film for over 50 years. However, technology only allowed him to make archival pigment prints that match the color and intensity of the Kodachrome slide in the past decade. In this respect, his photographs can be seen as an early indication of the "New Color" photographers of the seventies.
This book brings together over 230 images, many never before reproduced. It also features essays by acclaimed authors, David Campany and Hans-Michael Koetzle.
Fred Herzog was born in Germany in 1930, and immigrated to Vancouver in 1953. Herzog became known worldwide for his pioneering street photography, because of his understanding of the medium, combined with "how you see and how you think", ultimately creating the right moment to take a picture.
