About Sleeping with Ghosts
In this volume, Donald McCullin has gathered what he considers to be 200 of his best pictures. He demonstrates that his interests go far beyond the war photography for which he has become famous. The images he has chosen range from landscapes of India to down-and-outs in the East End.
Artist Bio
"Sir Don McCullin was born in 1935 and grew up in a deprived area of north London. He got his first break when a newspaper published his photograph of friends who were in a local gang. From the 1960s he forged a career as probably the UK’s foremost war photographer, primarily working for the Sunday Times Magazine. His unforgettable and sometimes harrowing images are accompanied in the show with his brutally honest commentaries." - The Tate Britain McCullin now spends his days in a Somerset village, where he photographs the landscape and arranges still lifes. A far cry from the world’s conflict zones and the war-scarred north London of Holloway Road where his career began.
