Paul Strand moved to Europe in 1950 and lived there for twenty five years until his death in 1976. During this time he produced some of his strongest, most influential images. Collected here for the first time, these photographs reveal through landscapes, portraits and scenes from everyday life Strand's belief in the "endurance and renewal of the human spirit." The book is arranged sequentially by region including sections on Italy, Romania, France and Ghana, and each section is prefaced with a quotation or a selection of text from one of Strand's earlier books.
