About Town to Town

This title was published to coincide with an exhibition at the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol back in 2018. This monograph, contains 60 portraits from a total of 6 years travelling across Britain. During this six year long trip, Niall travelled his home country stopping at more than 200 towns. Therefore, this is a book that brings together a highly unique portrait of Britain. Accordingly, this portrait is one of contrasts; the viewer gets to see the similarity between high street shops, café chains, brick houses. But also, we get a glimpse of how different the people who inhabit those streets are. The portraits in this title are full of colour and character. As it's typical in McDiarmid's work, the subjects are portrayed with a certain regality and elegance. To conclude, this is a book that celebrates Britain's idiosyncrasies but also the individuality of its people.
