Styled as a 1930s hardboiled detective noir, the story centers on private investigator Clyde Umney. What starts as a routine Los Angeles morning turns into a nightmare as everyone in his life abruptly disappears, leaving for reasons like winning the lottery or falling terminally ill, while showering Umney with sudden disdain on their way out.
