Utopia Ending
2022
First edition first impression in new condition.
After the war, a broad consensus developed in UK that post-war reconstruction should be based on more egalitarian principles and that the renaissance should reshape the nation from a social perspective. A common vision of giving people equal opportunities emerged and London represented the utopia of creating a city of social equity, providing housing for the working class and encouraging integration among immigrants. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the Government funded the development of large council housing areas to provide homes for immigrants and workers. Social housing was the driving force of urban development and became the centrepiece of British welfare, meeting the housing needs of around a quarter of the population.
