About The Act
In The Act, acclaimed fine art photographer Julia Fullerton - Batten portrays the lives and also skills of women who voluntarily engage in the UK sex industry as their career. Each woman’s story is printed on coloured trace sheets that partially obscure the portraits. Allowing each to be revealed with the turn of the page. Due to the overt nature of the photography, the book is sealed with a variety of black bindings, including laces, rubbers and strings.
So, Julia Fullerton - Batten is a worldwide acclaimed and exhibited fine art photographer. Her body of work now encompasses twelve major projects spanning a decade of engagement in the field.
Fullerton - Batten was born in Germany. She spent her early life in Germany and the USA, but after her parent’s divorce she and her siblings moved to the UK. Here, she completed her education, then studied photography at college.
