So, Yasuhiro Ogawa is a Japanese photographer born in 1968 in Kanagawa prefecture. He currently resides in Tokyo. Ogawa as many other artists of his time is primarily influenced by the 1980s. This was a period of quickly growing global capitalism, political upheaval and significant wealth discrepancy. During the nineteen eighties we also saw the rise of the global mass media. Furthermore, we witnessed distinctive fashion and music such as electronic pop and hip hop. It was the era of African famine. But also the height of the Cold War and then the end of it. In 2000, Ogawa received the Taiyo Award for Futashikana Chizu. Then, in 2006, he was short listed for Oskar Barnack Award for China work. And in 2009, he received the Photographic Society of Japan's Newcomer Award for Slowly Down the River.Related Links
