The jacket has quite a bit of shelfwear to top front and back. Now in a removable protective sleeve. Please see pictures. PayPal accepted, any questions please get in touch. First edition of Killip's powerful second book, after the publication of this book, he became the first recipient of the prestigious Henri Cartier-Bresson Award.

About In Flagrante

In Flagrante, Killip's "subjective book about my time in England" during its "de-industrialisation" is one of the greatest photobooks of the late 20th century, "a dark, pessimistic journey, perhaps even a secret odyssey, where rigorous documentary is suffused with a contemplative inwardness, a rare quality in modern photography" as put by Gerry Badger. Killip has chosen, for the book's epigraph, Yeats's poem, "He wishes for the cloths of Heaven", with the famous closing lines, "tread softly because you tread on my dreams", a choice which Berger & Grant, in their essay, describe as "searingly apt. for it is as if all the photos here have been branded, like a hundred cattle, with the tenderness of those eight lines."

Artist Bio

Chris Killip was born in Douglas, Isle of Man in 1946. Firstly, he left school at age sixteen and joined the only four-star hotel on the Isle of Man. In June 1964 he decided to pursue photography full time. So, he became a beach photographer in order to earn enough money to leave the Isle of Man. After leaving he then worked as a freelance assistant for various photographers in London from 1966-69. In 1969, after seeing his very first exhibition of photography at the MoMA, he decided to return to photograph in the Isle of Man. On a return visit to the USA in 1971, Lee Witkin, commissioned a limited edition portfolio of the Isle of Man work. Paying for it in advance so that Killip could continue to photograph.
