About
Issey Miyake's designs, assembled in this book for the first time, reflect his creative output between 1970 and 1977. The book focuses on Issey's concept and his creation from three different angles. In Part 1, entitled “Man and his Clothing,” we have tried to stress the relationship between clothes and the people who wear them. Many noteworthy people cooperated by wearing and being photographed in Issey's clothing. Issey's selection of the people for this book reflects his philosophy of clothing and his taste, i.e. how he likes to see his clothing worn. Part 2 is entitled “The Form of Cloth” and introduces Issey's design concept and his manner of creation. Part 3 attempts to document, chronologically, Issey's creative activity and is entitled “Witness of Time.” Detailed notes about each garments pictured are to be found – in both Japanese and English – at the back of the book.
