About The Handmaid's Tale

Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopian novel set in a not-so-far-from-now future. It was first published in 1985 and has become one of the most acclaimed books in recent history. Furthermore, it has been adapted to many other forms. For example, it was made into a film in 1990, it was also an opera and even a ballet. Later on, it became a graphic novel and in 2017 it turned into a television show. Of course, all of them of great success. Besides it has received many awards and nominations. So, this is a tale of terror, political oppression and control as well savage misogyny. It's a warning of a potential reality waiting to happen.

Overall, the tone of the novel is fiercely political and bleak. Although, it has many moments of wisdom and wit that provides the reader with a breath of fresh air amidst all the horror.
