About Approaching the Shadow
So, in this important addition to the literature available on a major figure of contemporary American photography, Uelsmann presents 57 photographs spanning his 40 year career. Many never before published, each photograph stands for "those dark and evocative images that emerge from just beyond the threshold of conscious understanding," (author). Beautifully printed in duotone on Japanese matte paper.

He began teaching photography at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1960 (“my first job offer”).
