Other work groups on view in the catalogue, such as Ohio, Dessau Files, and Culatra by Joachim Brohm; and Songbook and Niagara by Alec Soth, represent fictitious places and allow for a broader view of the oeuvres of the two photographers.
Also featured in the book is Brohm’s portrait series Flash Ohio, which will be published for the first time exactly 35 years after its creation and occupies a special position in his oeuvre.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Two Rivers: Joachim Brohm / Alec Soth at NRW-Forum, Düsseldorf (29 March – 7 July 2019).
About Alec Soth
Alec Soth (born 1969) is an American photographer, based in Minneapolis. He is a member of Magnum Photos. Soth makes “large-scale American projects” featuring the midwestern United States. New York Times
art critic Hilarie M. Sheets wrote that he has made a “photographic career out of finding chemistry with strangers” and photographs “loners and dreamers”.
His work tends to focus on the “off-beat, hauntingly banal images of modern America” according to The Guardian
art critic Hannah Booth.
