This remarkable collection of photographs covering a period of twenty years illustrates various aspects of social life in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq. The photographs were taken by a politician, Kamil Chadirji,  who led the cause of democracy in Iraq for over four decades, and who was able at the same time to observe the social life of the country between the 1920s and 1940s with the eye of a photographer and anthropologist. The collection is unique both as a historical record of a bygone age and for the excellence of its photography.
