Toshio Shibata

 received the Kimura Ihei award. Three years later, he was commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Arts of Chicago to photograph the United States and it is during this assignment that he captured his high angles shots of the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State.

Toshio Shibata switched to color photography in the early 2000s. In 2009, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography put on an extensive retrospective of his work.
