About 36 8 Polaroids
36 8 Polaroids features a selection from Zara's ongoing project and offers a unique dive into her recent work.
"When I started this ongoing body of work I thought it was about me trying to visualise the experience of pain, but over the past year I have come to realise it is more about working through past pain and trauma. Exorcising it. Allowing myself to sit with it, bring it to the surface and expel it from me and in to the images I make. An act of catharsis.”
Zara Carpenter is a self-taught multi disciplinary artist. She uses analog photography, print making, sculptural assemblages as well as performance.
Her current work explores the experience of past trauma and its physical effects on the body. Also, her previous bodies of work have examined themes of living with chronic illness, dependency on pain medication and her intrigue with memento mori imagery.
Zara has exhibited nationally and internationally and is the co-founder of the arts project SICK! Living With Invisible Illness, she has also curated several group shows. Furthermore, in 2018 Zara was awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice Grant from Arts Council England.
Zara also helps to deliver art workshops for The Wellcome Collection, Normal! festival of the Brain, FreeSpace Project and also many more.
