About India
India is a collection of 125 of Harry Gruyaert's photographs of the country that he took for over thirty years. The images reflect the photographer's interest in the stories, the public spaces and the unexpected as well as the chromatic differences between Eastern and Western light. Many of the images in the book are shown here for the first time: Buzzing streets full of people, enormous cities like Calcutta or Delhi, small villages in nadu or Tamil...Gruyaert's eye turns to the noises and the colours of a truly alive country. Moving beyond the stereotypical depiction of India, he tries to capture what really characterises a place, making this a multi-sensorial work that encompasses all the components that make India a great country.
