About Island Tides
Paul Glazier photographed the remote island of Vatersay(Scotland) over a 35 year period. The first time he visited the island, he was only twelve. Despite of his young age, the dramatic landscape and the islanders immediately resonated with him. Over the years, Glazier captured the changes in the community, the ageing faces and the shifts in the families as some arrived into the world and some left. As a result, the photographer managed to create a unique, intimate portrait of Vatersay, which is the southernmost inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides. Accordingly, the place presents a very rugged landscape and a solitude that are hard to find. besides, because of his visits through the years, Glazier built a connection not only to the place but to the people he photographed.
