Published in conjunction with the exhibition at the National Museum of Art in Osaka, this entrancing book captures the essence of Aiko Miyanaga s ephemeral artworks. Making moulds of objects such as keys, butterflies, puzzle pieces and bowls, she then casts them in naphthalene a synthetic material commonly found in mothballs. Placed in vitrines, the delicate objects slowly evaporate over a matter of mere weeks. The naphthalene accumulates in crystalline formations on the inside of the glass, a powerful indication of the impermanent, changeable nature of all things. Includes texts by Miyanaga, Jean de Loisy, Akira Tatehata, Yasuyuki Nakai and Shin-Ichi Fukuoka.
