Although a tragic figure, dying at aged forty, Edgar Allan Poe never the less left behind a wealth of material unique in the annuals of literature. Nobody, before or since, has managed to emulate his genius, capable of sending shivers down the stiffest spine.

Arthur Rackham (1867-1939 is still regarded as one of our great illustrators. The attention he gave to detail is as note-worthy as is his miraculous harmony of tone and colour. He illustrated many major works including The Arthur Rackham Fairy Book and The Compleat Angler. 

This present book is a reissue of the illustrated edition first published by Harrap in 1935.
