“The path connected our house to Green Leaves Day Nursery. For five years, I followed this path with my son. When it allowed, I walked along it with excitement, with my camera on my shoulder. Season by season, it looked different. On sunny days or in the rain, in the snow or at sunset, I would always encounter a different event. I could not help recording interesting ones. My son grows, and no scenery, no plants or animals remain the same. I would like to keep the changes in memory, to cherish them. And it is this same desire that gives birth to my photography.” – Masao Yamamoto Masao Yamamoto’s photographs have the look and feel of those old family pictures kept in a shoebox and passed down along the generations, getting a little more battered and beloved with each viewing. It is therefore fitting that this latest book of his work to be published by Nazraeli Press focuses on Yamamoto’s own family. The Path of Green Leaves is the route followed by the photographer, his wife, and their young son from their home to Green Leaves Day Nursery in Yokohama. Just as their child grows and changes, so too does the scenery along the way.
