About Julius Shulman Does His Own House
So, perched high in the Hollywood Hills is Julius Shulman’s own Studio and Residence. Built for him by Raphael Soriano in 1950 and then it is now a Los Angeles Cultural Landmark. Shulman as well as his collaborator on this project, David Tseklenis, recently photographed the home, office and surrounding gardens. The book finally culminates in a photograph made by Shulman of his property in the 1940s, as it was being prepared for construction.
About Julius Shulman
Julius Shulman (October 10, 1910 – July 15, 2009), an American architectural photographer best known for his photograph "Case Study House #22, Los Angeles, 1960. Therefore, Shulman's photography spread the aesthetic of California's Mid century modern architecture around the world. Through his many books, exhibits and personal appearances his work ushered in a new appreciation for the movement beginning in the 1990s.
