Thomas Flechtner

Thomas Flechtner is best known for his images of snow, as in “Passes” (1997–2001), a series of elegant photographs taken in La Sagne, a remote village near the French-Swiss border, that document heavy snowfall on barns, fences, and other manmade structures. In later work, Flechtner has photographed Japanese cherry blossoms, synthetic Dutch landscapes, and flowers from his gardens in France and Switzerland. Despite the introduction of vivid color and increasingly complex compositional choices, Flechtner's interest in the interplay of manmade and natural landscapes remains consistent.
